On Friday, November 22, 2013 we celebrate the Feast of our patron, St. Cecilia. I would like to personally thank all members of our music ministry for all that they do to support the prayer life of our parish. Many of them sacrifice time with family because they are totally committed to this ministry. I would like to offer the following prayer forour musicians:
O God, you have made us for yourself, with hearts to love you and voices to sing your praise. Give to your Church, we pray, devoted and skilled musicians to lead the song of your people as they join the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Cecilia, and all the saints in an unending hymn to your glory. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
All parishioners are invited to plan now to attend our annual
Music Ministry Christmas Concert on Saturday, Dec. 21st at 7:30 PM in the Church.
Support our musicians by attending our musical, “The Gift Goes On”.
Tickets will be on sale next month. Marcia Seheult, Director of Worship
BECOMING A MAN AFTER GOD'S OWN HEART
AT ST. PATRICK, SATURDAY MORNINGS
6:45 AM—8:30 AM
We have only a few sessions left before we take our Christmas and New Year’s break. (11/23, 12/7, 12/14 then off until 1/25). Last week, we encountered Joseph as a role model for fathers of today. Remember these roadside wood carvings of the name “Jesus” that were made emphasizing negative space – instead of making the letters prominent, it made the spaces stand out? When you first saw it, it was gibberish but once you figured out the puzzle and saw the name, you couldn’t remember what it looked like with only the negative spaces. The name was all you saw.
Much of Joseph’s character in the Bible was negative space. He was never quoted, ever, not a single word. And yet his presence and actions had a profound effect on Mary and his son and thus the entire world. The example, and model, he made are extraordinarily profound. To the culture of his time, Mary’s pregnancy was shameful and merited stoning until she died for becoming pregnant out of wedlock. Although sinless, Joseph took Mary’s apparent sin upon himself and was willing to die for her out of love for her and the baby. (Sound familiar?) That is the model we as fathers are called to live out for the love of our wives and children. Not an easy lesson, but like the little wooden plaque, once you see it, you can’t go back. Join us in this experience and let God change your vision of yourself and your role as a man.
Hope to see you Saturday, 6:45 AM – out by 8:30 AM!
